Getting Started with a Simple Meditation Method
Getting
started with meditation? Great! Here is a meditation method that
will help you. It really is best to have a meditation method
guide as you’re starting because it can be tough at the
beginning. Having something to assist you makes things a bit
easier.
• Once you have found a quiet place, sit in your most
comfortable position. Straighten your back and keep your eyes
closed.
• Now, in your mind, form the letter A as vividly as possible.
Hold it for a few seconds.
• Next, beside the letter A form the letter B. Just like the
previous one, see it as clear as possible in your mind. Let your
concentration stay there for a while.
• It’s now time to do the Japa. This is done by saying or creating the word
“Ahh” as you move onto the space between the
letters A and B. Keep the sound for as long as you can (or at
least for 10 seconds.) Focus on it, feel it leave your throat
and sense it going around the room.
• As you are in the space between A and B, do the Japa twice. If
your mind tries to wonder somewhere else, force it back to focus
only on the sound.
• Shift your attention to the letter B again. Look at it vividly
in your mind. Hold your focus on the letter again for a moment.
• Slowly create the letter C now. See it as clearly as possible.
Make it concrete and let it have your focus for a few moments.
• Turn your attention to the space between letter B and the
letter C, then do the Japa again. Keep your focus on the sound “Ahh”.
Sense it as it leaves your throat. Feel it surrounding the room
that you are in. Slowly, for about 10 seconds or more, focus on
it. Do it twice, don’t lose your focus.
• Return your focus on the letter C. Beside it, start forming
the letter D in your mind’s eye. Just like what you did with the
previous letters, create a vivid picture of this letter in your
mind.
• Once the letter is solidly visualized, focus on it for a while
before shifting your attention back into the space between it
and the letter C. Start with the Japa again.
• Repeat the same methods as you go through the rest of the
letters from letter A – G.
• When you are used to this method, you can go on increasing the
Japa sounds you create between letters. It is best to do this
regularly so that you can get used to it faster.
This meditation method is popular not just to beginners but also
to those who have long been practicing meditation. It is a good
guide because the Japa helps in keep your focus because your
mind will be trying to wander while you meditate.
