Which of the Meditation Types is Best for You?
When
you are feeling very stressed out and just want to get rid of
all the things that are bothering you, you may want to consider
trying Meditation.
Meditation is a practice where you concentrate on one thing or
maintain your focus on just a single thought to clear your mind,
making you more relaxed. It has been proven to help lessen your
problems because it gives your mind time to rest even for just a
while.
There are many Meditation types that you may consider starting
with. Most of them are practiced by religious groups such as
Buddhist, Christians, Muslims, etc. If you do not know which of
these types you would like to try, here’s a quick idea of some
of the more popular meditation types.
• Buddhist meditation – This is one of the oldest forms of
meditation which aims to separate the mind from the physical
body, thus taking the mind to a greater level of consciousness
and bringing about enlightenment. The techniques commonly
implemented here are awareness of breathing, reflection on the
non-permanence or mysteries of life and visualizing an object in
your mind which you focus on.
• Christian meditation – Prayer is the most common form of
Christian meditation. In the Catholic religion, it is done
regularly when praying with the rosary or in prayers that focus
in the Eucharist or adoration.
• Jewish meditation – This often get confused with the Buddhist
Meditation, however they are actually different. It focuses on
the core emptiness where everything found around us is formed.
It believes that we receive based on the Torah’s words, deeds
and intentions and not just from any one thing. The main focus
is the Torah and not some visualized object.
• Hatha Yoga – Breathing is the main focus of Yoga. Breathing
gives us strength and helps revitalize us. This is what makes
Yoga effective and provide us with a lot of benefits. It’s
actually easy since breathing is an involuntary activity for us,
however, the challenge is to eliminate hindrances like bad
habits and attitudes and tension in us, which restrains proper
breathing.
• Taoist Meditation – This aims to calm not just the mind but
also the body. It focuses on stillness and emptiness. It states
that you struggle against your mind when you start meditation
due to your ego fighting against the forces of higher spiritual
awareness. Once you’ve overcome that with the use of the
energies of your emotions, mind and body, you’ll relax and clear
your spirit.
Once you have chosen the meditation types that you want to try,
find a more detailed explanation of the techniques so that you
can implement them. I suggest that you try Guided Meditation
first, one where a voice guides you along the way as you try to
learn the basics so that eventually, you can do it on your own.
